I chose this challenge because I am no good at climbing hills or walking in a lot of heat, and I am terrified of crossing suspension bridges!
2008 Sapa Hill Tribe Trek, Vietnam
01 Nov 2008
Sue Tilson, registered nurse at Helen Ley, undertook this challenge to raise funds for the Helen Ley Garden Upgrade project. From an original minimum target of £2,850, the eventual amount raised was £6,984. Sue achieved this through sponsorship, boot sales, a charity auction and disco evening.
The challenge involved trekking around 17km a day through one of the most densely populated hill tribe areas of Vietnam. Sapa is a rugged area with terraces, rolling hills, deep valleys and rice fields. Rivers were crossed using primitive aerial ropeways and old suspension bridges. Nights were spent camping, either in tents or in bamboo huts with local villagers.
